Viking Pump, Inc. has been a pump industry leader and innovator since its founding in 1911. They are building on ever-growing experience to deliver innovative pumping solutions (including custom designs) to tens of thousands of customers who use millions of Viking pumps in some of the world's toughest applications.
Why do I need a gear pump instead of a common centrifugal pump?
Typically, gear pumps are used for two reasons. The first is that media is not a thin liquid such as water,
milk or solvent. Viscous liquids such as oil, toothpaste, melted chocolate, wax and tar require a different
pumping principal which allows for more force to be applied to the liquid. The second reason is that a
gear pump has a tunable flow rate (using a variable speed drive or geared motor unit) without effecting
the discharge pressure. A centrifugal pump only has one efficient duty point with pressure linked to flow rate.
Ok, I need a gear pump, but which one?
There are dozen of different parent gear pump groups in the Viking range, of which each have dozens of child models with differing specifications.
Universal Seal Series Up to 1,900 l/min Up to 14 bar
Model Codes: 123A, 124A, 126A, 127A Packed Gland, Mechnically Sealed or Mag-Drive Internal Gear The Viking Universal Seal Series is a heavy duty industrial internal gear pump which is extremely versitile meaning that it can be specified to match a very wide range of challenging applications. Available in Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Cast Steel and Stainless Steel this pump is currently being used with liquids from oil, to isocyanate, to biodiesel, to molasses. Its advanced Cartridge type mechanical seal again allows versitility when it comes to offering the customer a reliable and cost effective solution. This pump is long coupled to the drive, requiring a coupling, baseplate and guard.
Motor Speed Pumps Up to 450 l/min
Up to 17 bar
Model Codes: 495/4195, 493/4194, 497/4197
Mechanically Sealed or Mag-Drive
Internal Gear This range is our best selling. Directly coupled to an IEC motor with use of a belhousing, these pumps allow for a compact simple solution for your pumping needs.
With a choice of Cast Iron, Cast Steel or Stainless Steel, these pumps are used on a wide rangeof applications, especially on ones where footprint or size is critical.
External Spur Gear Pumps Up to 720 l/min Up to 34 bar Model Codes: SG-04/5/7/12/14, SG404/5/7/12/14 and SG-804/5/7/12/14 Lipsealed, Mechanically Sealed or Mag-Drive
Viking Spur gear pumps are capable of discharge pressures up to 34 bar.
Mounted to an IEC motor via a bellhousing, they offer a compact, discrete footprint. When used with a variable speed drive they offer an exceptionally versitile solution.
Available in Cast Iron and Ductile Iron.
Vane Pump Up to 600 l/min
Up to 14 bar
Model Codes: LVP Mechanically Sealed Sometimes a customer wants to retain all the benefits of a gear pump such as adjustable flow rate and constant pressure, but wishes to pump a thinner liquid (<3.5cP) In this case a vane pump can be very suitable. Typically, these have been supplied for bulk unloading of fuels and chemicals. These pumps are baseplate mounted with a geared motor unit. The Vane material is PEEK.
Viking Hygienic Series
25 to 1000 l/min
Up to 10 bar
Model Codes: 157B/4157B
When you think of a Hygienic positive displacement pump, most customers think of a rotary lobe pump with twin shafts, twin seals and two timed rotors.
Viking are now offering a single shaft, single seal, hygienic gear pump.
The beauty of this pump is its simplicity. It directly targets dairy and food & beverage markets and can be considered an alternative in pharmaceutical applications.
